Is there such thing as financial freedom ? Is it really achievable ?

There have been quite a number of courses which talk about achieving financial freedom. I wonder if they really work.

1. Financial freedom (AKA financial independence) just means having enough assets and/or unearned income that you have all the money you need without working. As for the "classes" you might see advertised on late night infomercials they may include legitimate ways to make money but they tend to grossly overstate the likely income and grossly understate the amount of work involved in earning it. Most of the wealth produced by those classes is by the people offering the class. Things like buying a house and selling it a few days later for a huge profit sound great, and if you have enough people trying to do that you can find a few who have, but in the real world the probability of doing that is very low because the market tends to bid up the price to something close to its true market value. So unless you have the time and skills to add value to the property it's very unlikely that you can quickly turn over properties at a profit. So beware of anyone claiming to have "secrets" that enable you make money without investing time and/or money and without risk of loss. The real secrets to financial freedom are: + make financial decisions based on what's best in the long run + live on less than what you make so you can accumulate net worth + understand the risks involved in financial decisions + be frugal - that's tomorrow's financial freedom you are spending at the mall Having a vision or dream of your financial freedom can be a powerful motivator for you, to work toward your goals and/or to resist temptations that do not contribute to that but beware that others will attempt to use your "dream" as a tool to manipulate you into doing their bidding (e.g. the Amways and get-rich-quick artists of the world). So take a close look at the motives of anyone who claims to have your best interests in mind.
