Why do people blame credit card companies for their own poor money management?
It drives me crazy how people will max out their cards, miss payments, etc, and then get mad when the company applies interest or fees. If you're not one of those people, don't you just want to punch them in the mouth? If you are one of those people, what the hell makes you think your money problems are anybody's fault but your own? The credit card companies, banks, payday loans, and so on, are not evil. If you don't use them incorrectly or at all, you won't be in this mess. So stop whining about it and admit it's your fault.

- I completely agree. I have said countless times that when people blame the credit card companies for doing exactly what they said they would do if payments were missed, limits were exceeded or payments were late they are totally missing the point. All of these things are explained in the terms and conditions so if you really want to know who is responsible, look in the mirror.
- You are correct.
- People seem to want to blame anyone but themselves for their poor decisions. Credit cards are wonderful if used responsibly.
- companies are out to make $$$$$$$$ raise your APR up when you dont even expect it . turn it over to Credit breaus , then mess it up. Credit Companies will approve acct , sent it to people who cant afford it . They want you financially in trouble ....overcharge . Always something going on .
- I hear this argument so many times, and it's always the same. Here's the problem. People are going to run up debt, then not pay it back, then when banks/creditcard companies/lenders ask for the money, it doesn't exist. It's what caused the Great Depression, and it's what's causing the Mortgage Crisis. Yeah, it's the people's fault, and you can call them stupid all you want, but it still leads to America's economy doing poorly, which in turn hurts YOUR finances. The only viable solution is to prevent people from running up high debts. The stupid people obviously won't do this, so you have to turn to the credit card companies, and disallow them from giving infinite credit to people who'll never pay their credit cards off
- While there are some cases where people weren't properly informed of terms or stipulations, or of unfair credit practices; the vast majority of those people who are upset with credit cards really did it to themselves. It's easier to blame someone else. Its not like someone held you up against a wall and made you get a credit card, or made you use it. People on the whole don't want to take blame for something they themselves have done. Look at the obesity epidemic, to name one problem.
- It's the great American passtime to not take responsibility for our shortcomings and to blame anyone related to big business. That being said, the credit card companies are no angels and like to grab fees whenever and wherever they can. They do provide a useful service, and have to charge high rates to make up for those who default, but their disclosure is murky.
- While I somewhat agree, it also needs to be said that the credit card companies hit the consumers with outrageous fees and interest when it is not justified. They deserve their fair share of the blame as well. Another problem is that they refuse to work with customers when circumstances arise that prevent them from paying. When I worked for Macy's I had many customers calling in wanting to get a payment plan due to some circumstances in their life, but Macy's would refuse to do that until they were 3 months behind. Really hard to blame the customer for that.
